WRDM FIRE FIGHTING TRAINING COURSE

All our students had great fun on Valentines Day, with a Mr & Miss Valentine, a Love Potion sale by the Grade 4’s, 5’s and 6’s and a raffle with great prizes.  Thanks to Linda Van Niekerk for the wonderful donation of roses.

SANEF INTERSCHOOLS QUALIFIER 1

All our riders did exceptionally well at the first qualifier.  Our senior riders are all in the top five individually with points, and Trentin Varrall is the 9th top junior rider.

The team were sponsored matching T-shirts which went a long way to building team spirit.  Thanks to Brandon and Shannon Davies for organizing them at such short notice.

POLICE STATION VISIT

All our seniors visited the Muldersdrift SAPS.  They had great fun being escorted in a police van, then had a chance to see and sit in the cells to see how criminals end up.  Everyone then met in the board room and had a lecture

From Insp Ngomo, the Social Crime Prevention officer, who explained basic criminal laws.  The students were shown a recent motor vehicle that had been involved in a drunk driving accident, before being taken back to school with lots of what they’d seen being food for thought.

SHROVE TUESDAY/PANCAKE DAY

All our students celebrated Shrove Tuesday in the age old tradition with pancakes from the canteen.  Thanks to Mrs Bagley from the Parents Association for cooking so many.

PLANT PROPAGATION AT GARDEN WORLD

Our Senior Primary children have been studying plants in LO.  To compliment this they were taken to the Garden World Farm to see a nursery in action.  A big thank you to AJ who runs the farm, who took out time to take them through the process.  The boys had great fun planting their own plants and learning about the use of technology even in farming.

The school gardening competition is coming up and hopefully our students will now be well geared to get the project off the ground.

Everyone enjoyed a slap up tea in the restaurant before returning to school.

VALENTINE RAFFLE

Well done to our Grade 8’s who ran a Valentine Raffle to raise funds for readers.  Mrs Bagley kindly drew the winners - CONGRATULATIONS to:

2nd Prize - Henk Bosmanwith 2 tickets for ice skating at Northgate.

3rd Prize - Felicia Harrison with a set of Valentine glasses.

DRUMMING

Shayne, a drumming instructor, visited in the school in February and gave all the children a chance to try their hand at drumming.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience, from our smallest to the biggest, as can be seen.

Shayne is providing drumming lessons at school on Tuesdays

at 2.30pm at a cost of R45 a lesson.  He can arrange drums for purchase too.

Everyone was impressed with how, after just a few minutes, all the children were playing a great musical beat, keeping great time.

Students returned to school during the June holidays to attend a community course run by Public Safety from WRDM 107 center where they all qualified for their Fire Fighting Certificates.

Under the guidance of Ben Subke, everyone covered the theory of fire before going out into the community and putting the theory into practice by burning a fire break.

Everyone had great fun and enjoyed seeing each other after the long break.  Well done to everyone.

GARDENWORLD SPRING FESTIVAL SCHOOL COMP.

Our students are enjoying building their garden for this years’ Spring Festival.  The theme for 2010 is Nature’s Chamions.  Our children have decided to highlight the important role insects play in the garden.  Our seniors designed and built the garden, and our juniors have created lovely little creatures such as ladybirds.  Pop along a have a look.
